TARGET AUDIENCE
Primary care physicians, family medicine, internists and ER physicians.
Urological conditions impact million of people, 1 in 5 Americans suffer from urologic conditions and it is estimated that it costs the US healthcare system $11 billion annually in medical preventative and oncology care. Urologic cancers are the most commonly diagnosed in the US, with prostate cancer being the second leading cause of cancer death among men. The Urology for Primary Care Symposium 2026 will provide a focused review of common urological conditions encountered in primary care, screening, prevention, and patient management strategies. The goal of this symposium is to equip primary care physicians to identify patients with urological conditions early and to provide evidence-based, guideline-centric care to improve patient outcomes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the meeting the participants will be able to:
Identify clinical manifestations of BPH Initial medical management, indications for urology referral and overview of latest surgical techniques.
Review of the classification of renal cysts, and the recommended approach to complex kidney cysts in adults.
Update on PSA, including causes of abnormal values, efficacy of screening and recommendations regarding screening for prostate cancer based on the AUA guidelines.
Define Microhematuria, its prevalence, possible etiologies, and necessary work-up prior to urological evaluation.
Provide a comprehensive understanding of how to manage stones through dietary and medical interventions, to better diagnose, treat, and educate patients effectively, leading to improve patient outcomes and a reduced prevalence of stone-related complications.
UTI’s diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Define the epidemiology and pathophysiology of erectile dysfunction. Describe the initial evaluation of patient presenting with erectile dysfunction and discuss its medical and surgical management.
Describe OAB, how to evaluate the patient and management; and discuss refractory OAB options. Present the AUA/SUFU guidelines statements and updates to them.
